Hi there – I’m Christian. I’m a full-time physician, medical writer, editor, and internet entrepreneur.
I got into medical writing in early 1995 after getting my MD at Washington University in St. Louis. I have been a freelance medical writer for the TalkAboutSleep website since 2014, writing about medical and mental health conditions, healthy sleeping habits, and how patients can improve their life quality by adjusting their sleep patterns.
I became a doctor to help people in need, but I quickly realized that my job was far from the saving the world fantasy I had envisioned when growing up. It’s not so much being able to help in an instant kind of way or fixing things at once. What you have to realize as a doctor is that you are constantly fixing things, but they are usually small and slow fixes that lead to long-term healing. That’s why medical writing is one of the most important aspects of being a good doctor – because it lets you share your knowledge with the world in a way that can make a real difference in people’s lives.
I’m not telling you that I got into writing because it’s easy. Quite the contrary, actually – I have had my fair share of being discouraged by editors who didn’t want to hear what I had to say about their articles. But now, looking back at everything I’ve written during the last 15 years or so, there is one thing that I know for sure: if you want to be a successful writer, you have to be passionate about it.
Medical writing is a vital part of the doctor-patient relationship, because it helps to improve communication between doctors and patients. By providing accurate and up-to-date information about medical conditions, treatments, and procedures, medical writers help to ensure that patients have the information they need to make informed decisions about their health.
